In the I am Van Gogh Tour, you follow the path of young Vincent through Amsterdam.
‘It is a beautiful city,’ wrote Van Gogh in one of his many letters to his brother Theo. ‘Oh how I would love to show you all kinds of things out here’. During the tour, you will see the city of Amsterdam through the eyes of young Vincent, who saw paintings all around him, which he drew both in words in his letters, as with paint in his work. He studied the techniques of Rembrandt and the coloring of Frans Hals, to immediately apply his findings to his work.
Vincent visited Amsterdam three times and stayed in the city for more than four hundred days to study theology, as he wanted to become a preacher. He made two paintings during that time: View of Amsterdam from Central Station and De Ruyterkade. However, he had never taken into account that he would become one of the biggest artists ever known.
Under the guidance of our guide Rudolph, a former Drawing Teacher himself, you step into the shoes of a young Vincent, capturing the cityscape as he once did. We provide you with your personal I am Van Gogh Guide and packed Amsterdam Painters Tours backpack, and we take you along the canals and through the Jordaan area, through the streets where Vincent walked, past the houses where he stayed, the churches where he attended sermons and the places where he took the brush in his hand.
Along the way, we take care of you, with nostalgic Amsterdam delicacies, in cafés that Vincent once visited himself. An educational, creative and culinary tour, in the footsteps of Van Gogh.
